MY DEGREE
I'm studying for a masters degree in automotive engineering at Loughborough University. I’m currently in the 4th year out of 5, having recently finished a year in industry working for Lotus Engineering. Don’t be mislead by the picture I chose to represent this section – the course is extremely difficult and nights out are down to a pathetic once a week at the moment. Still – I aim to apply the ‘quality not quantity’ principle to this as well as anything else. Click here to find out more about my course and my department.
Working at Lotus for a year has confirmed that I am studying the right thing, and the work is interesting this year. Coursework deadlines and exams are constantly testing everybody’s commitment (2 finalists have dropped out this year) but sharing a house with 2 others from the course helps keep motivation going. This is a good thing ‘cos I’m course rep this year!
LOUGHBOROUGH
Loughborough itself must be one of the least inspiring student towns in existence. However, the university itself is generally very good. Recent developments relevant to me are the new media centre (inc. recording studio) at the Student’s Union, and our new department, due for completion in June (only a year behind schedule). This will be within 2 minutes of our house, which I share with 4 other guys. The house is blatantly not big enough for 5 people, but we get on well and have avoided major disputes so far.
MY FRIENDS

Unfortunately, homebrewing activities are on hold at the moment. Probably no bad thing as the last barrel developed a very, um, unique taste, and was not consumed. This was one of the more successful brews in progress...
MUSOC
A fair amount of my spare time at Uni has been devoted to the Student Union’s Musicians Society – MUSOC. I’ve been on committee for 3 years helping to organise what has become a very active society with over 100 members and a busy calendar. We essentially exist to help student bands get together, after which we provide equipment, sound engineers and events for them to play at. Please visit www.musoc.org for more info.
